1. Submit application
Submit your application with all required documents to basehabitat.postgrad@kunstuni-linz.at
2. We’re reviewing your application
After submitting the required documents our team will evaluate the entries and get in touch with applicants.
3. Interviews
Selected applicants will be invited to an interview via Zoom or, when logistically possible, held in person in Linz.
4. Secure your spot
Within a few days after the interview, you will get the information about acceptance. You confirm your participation by paying 20% of the tuition fee. If you are admitted, your place in the program is not guaranteed until you make this deposit.
5. Finalize your enrolment with full payment
The full tuition fee payment must be made before the payment deadline. Please note that these payments are part of the admissions process. basehabitat will finalize your enrolment to the program after full payment is received on our account.
Required documents
A certified copy of your diploma or proof that you have almost completed your studies. If your degree is in a language other than English or German, you will also need to provide a certified translation of your degree.
To be eligible for the programme, basehabitat requires you to:
- A completed Bachelor’s degree in architecture or a related degree of 180 ects combined with several years of relevant work experience.
- A Master’s degree in a subject closely related to the postgraduate programme (urban planning, engineering or similar) combined with several years of relevant work experience.

A certified copy of your academic transcript in English or German. If the document is in a language other than English or German, please also provide a certified translation of your academic transcript. Please note that you must bring a certified copy of this document with you when you come to Linz. For example, if you are in your final year of undergraduate studies, you will need to provide a certified copy of your provisional transcript and a certified translation of the transcript if it is not in English or German
- A TOEFL test with a minimum of 21 points for each section and an overall Band score of at least 90. We only accept internet-based tests.
- IELTS with a minimum of 6.0 for each section and an overall band score of at least 6.5.
- University of Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English, or the University of Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English.
Explain your motivation for being admitted to the programme, why you want to study at basehabitat and what skills you want to develop through through your studies. Save PDF as: NameSurname_MOTIVATION
A photocopy of your passport pages (preferably in colour) showing your name, date of birth, place of birth and passport expiry date. Save PDF as: NameSurname_IDENTITY
The CV should be no longer than one page in length. Save PDF as: NameSurname_CV
The digital portfolio should include examples of your work to date. Work experience should be added to the portfolio. A portfolio should reflect the depth and variety of your previous training and experience, with particular emphasis on your personal interests and academic and practical skills.
What to include in your portfolio:
- The portfolio cover should include your full name and contact details.
- Include a maximum of five projects in total, either from your previous education or practice (examples of design or planning projects, extracts from written reports, publications, or research). See below for further details.
- Include at least one single authored project.
- Include your final (or most recent) project.
Project documentation: Please note that for all projects shown we require you to include the name(s) of the author(s).
Per project define:
- Name and location of the project
- If it is academic or professional
- If it is individual or group work
- Your role in the process
- Your exact contribution to the project
- The level of the project, if academic (year/semester of your study in which the project was carried out)
- Date when the project was carried out
Portfolios are evaluated digitally and should be easy to read without zooming or scrolling.
Therefore
- The size of your portfolio should not exceed 20 MB.
- The size of the pages must not exceed A4
- The number of pages must not exceed 20 A4 pages
- The document format must be PDF and Save As: NameSurname_PORTFOLIO
These requirements are strict. If you do not meet them, your portfolio will not be evaluated and you will not be given another chance to apply this academic year.
