The postgraduate students were able to spend a couple of days immersed in the building culture of Vorarlberg. Vorarlberg, the westernmost province of Austria, impresses with its pioneering buildings made of wood and (rammed) earth. Students had the incredible opportunity to visit Martin Rauch’s private residence, office and new Erden Werkhalle in Schlins.
Part of the tour were several innovative timber buildings by Hermann Kaufmann, Marte Marte and Dietrich Untertrifaller.
Students also visited the BASEhabitat project Hägi Wendls where Master students had been working on from 2020 – 2021.
All these buildings were sources of inspiration for the students, not only in terms of materiality but also for their innovative approaches to design.
