Earth as excavation material is available in enormous quantities. How can this material be turned into building material? How can earth building be realised in contemporary architecture? Felix Hilgert shows practical examples in his lecture.

Felix Hilgert studied civil engineering at ETH Zurich and wrote his master's thesis on ‘Excavation material as the new building resource for Zurich’. From 2017 to 2023, Hilgert worked at Boltshauser Architekten AG, Zurich, and since autumn 2018 has been a research assistant at the Roger Boltshauser Chair at ETH Zurich. In 2019, Felix Hilgert and Lukas Baumann founded LEHMAG AG, a construction company for sustainable building with excavated earth.
