In the linear economic system, valuable building materials are dumped at the end of their life cycle despite their high material value, instead of being kept in the cycle. The economic policy goals at national and EU level define a CO2-neutral, sustainable path that is only possible if a circular construction industry is promoted. The reuse and dismantlability of building components make a significant contribution to reducing emissions. Currently, for various reasons, such as costs, technical expertise, warranty, verifiability and low value, components are not or only rarely reused. In his presentation, Peter Kneidinger outlines the complex topic of reusing building components.
In a current co-operation project between Materialnomaden and BASEhabitat, a pilot project in Stadl-Paura is being scientifically supported. Students can experience all the steps from harvesting building materials and creating a harvest map to designing with reuse material and the final implementation. The project is funded by the Technologies and Innovations for the Climate Neutral City 2022 programme.
